I occasionally love to swing a hammer. Even if I do pound nails like a girl. Yep, it’s really true. Especially if it’s something that really engages my imagination.
A couple of times, I’ve happened to have some plywood, some fence posts, and 21,000 assorted nails on hand, plus a lot of extra time on my hands. And ideas in my head. Now, I ask you, what kind of creative woman would NOT happen to have 21,000 nails on hand for just any occasion? Well, actually, I didn’t. I had to buy them as I went along, treating myself to some odd looks from the men at the lumberyard. Lady, just exactly what is it that you’re building????
Oh, whatever. Do your nails like a man for a change. Out with the manicure, in with the tools!
This big guy is my prized possession, and I made him for myself, just to see if I could do it. I had a lot of fun making noise night and day for a month, but to me, it was worth every minute of it.
Have a closer look at the head and a super close look that even shows some of the rust on the nails.
The inspiration came from an enormous project by Saimir Strati, the Albanian mosaic artist who did the breathtaking nail mosaic of Da Vinci, which became a Guinness World Record in 2006. My admiration for his work is huge, and I wanted to emulate one of his projects on a smaller scale.
To see more of his projects, his website is here.
